Destructoid.com Hacked!

Destructoid.com was down for the most part of today, I thought it was under a DDOS attack or something similar, turns out it was hacked!, today was a bad day on the internet, Destructiod was hacked and the hacker got all usernames and passwords on the website, and Bluehost was DDOS’d, and CoDCreators.com was brought down, heres the email I recieved.

Dear Dtoiders,

Summary: a wily hacker got everyone’s usernames and passwords, so we
changed them all. Your new login information is at the end of this message.

This is the letter every web site operator hopes he never has to write: it
seems a glitch in our web site allowed someone to exploit the database this
weekend. We have confirmed that the intruder succesfully obtained
everyone’s username and password.

As soon as we were alerted we shut down all servers, changed all passwords,
took our forums offline, and notified everyone via email with your new
randomly generated password. We’re doing everything we can do prevent this
from ever happening again and deeply apologize for this incovenience.

On the bright side, we intentionally store very little personally
identifiable information. However, you may still be at risk: If you
frequently use the same password for other web services such as Gmail, Xbox
Live, PSN, Facebook, MySpace, or any other web site we strongly urge you to
update your password ASAP. This is a good policy in general.

Destructoid has reported the incident to IC3 (FBI’s internet crime complaint
arm) and are working through our log files to learn more information on the
incident. We are also offering a $1,000 award to anyone with information
that leads us to prosecuting the intruder. If you have any information
please contact us.

Your username: JDogg
Your new password: *I’m not that stupid :P *

Login at http://www.destructoid.com/ and click “Settings” at the top right
of the page if you’d like to change it.

Thanks,
Niero

CoDWaW Server Exploit

Originally posted on fpsadmin.com.

A player named Gazzy just jumped on my CODWW server and within 10 seconds started making laodscreens come up, end of game score screens flash across, etc., all kinds of stuff. He said he was here to ruin our game. I minimized and banned him quickly via HLSW. The server started map rotating thru each map. I reset the rcon password and restarted the server. Seems to have stopped whatever was happening. Either they were happy they emptied a full server and left, I don’t know.

Read the entire thread here. I’ve never heard of anything like this in all of the CoD games, funny how this has only happened for the first time in WaW :P .

Tally Leaving CoD Community, Worm Close Behind

“At the end of January, I will be leaving the Call of Duty community for good.”-Tally
Tally posted a thread on the RGN forums stating that he will be leaving the CoD community for good, his reasons are:

Why move on? Because there is simply no point modding or mapping for empty servers. It’s because the players move on that modders and mappers have to move on.

In the old days of the Quake 3 engine, we had 3 to 4 years to get into modding projects. That’s why we had all the great modding and mapping projects in the old vCOD/UO days. Projects like Revolt, Swat, Heat of Battle, Conquest TDM, German Front Mod. We will never see such things again with Call of Duty, as such projects require TIME to develop.

Take COD4 as an example: as soon as anyone got going with COD4, COD:WaW was announced and all work ceased.

Things will only get worse now: the modders and mappers have caught on as to what is happening, and so no one even starts a project now

Also, the other main reason I am going is because, as Wizz said better than I did elsewhere, this community is broken and cant be fixed. It is way too fragmented and full of small minded people.

Tally has been with the CoD community for years, and has helped countless amounts of up and comming modders (Including me) on forums across the community, starting with IWN, I joined IWN on August the 4th 2007 in search of modding help, I posted about 20 threads all asking for help on modding, and I could always count on Tally to post back, even if the thread went on for 3 pages, he would bear with me, and disregard the fact that I was a total noob, and needed things explained more than once. Over the years Tally got a lot of crap, there was always people who hated him, I tried to stay clear of threads like that, but I always read them, people always seemed to find something wrong with his mods. Tally has been on IWN since August 05 (That’s weird, we both joined on the same months :P ) and has made over 5 thousand posts, most of them helping out people in need of help, and unfortunatley many defending his work. Whether you liked or disliked Tally, you can’t deny, he was an incredible asset to this community. Farewell Tally, I can understand why your leaving, I just hope your wrong about the direction of CoD, as for Worm, I refuse to believe he’s gone till he’s gone. And Tally, please don’t pull a Raf1 on us :) .

CoD:WaW post inbound

JD_2020 has just released the information that patch 1.2 is inbound. Watch this space.

“1.2 PATCH INFO COMING SOON TO A FORUM STICKY NEAR YOU”
- JD2020

Source-BashandSlash/Jock Yitch

Hi all,

I know many of you may feel a bit left out seeing the console updates that keep getting pushed through, which is why I am making this post. I want to explain why the PC community cannot receive updates quite as frequently as the console world.

For that, please read the PC Patching Process sticky here:
http://www.callofduty.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=91072

After having read that, I want to update you with where we are at in that process. Presently, we are smack dab in the middle of Phase 2. We have a comprehensive list of what the community has been reporting, and we are reproducing & fixing some the issues for Patch 1.2.

Now we understand that some issues are more urgent than others. For this reason, we are aiming to release Patch 1.2 as quickly as possible – sometime towards the end of this month, beginning of next month (February). We want to move quickly on some of the more pertinent and more easily isolated issues, rather than waiting to release a more comprehensive patch that attempts to address them all.

Below is a list of some of the issues we are trying to fix for Patch 1.2. In order to get this patch out at the beginning of February at the latest, there may be an issue or two we intended to fix that gets pushed to Patch 1.3.

  • All relevant console hot fixes & TU fixes (mostly MP map fixes).
  • HTTP Redirect.
  • Dedicated server reconnecting to master server index w/out reboot.
  • Fast-XP “Power Servers” exploit.
  • Server authentication errors.
  • Cg_drawFPS in Multiplayer.
  • Cg_fov defaulting back to 65 after death.
  • +connect command line argument.
  • Preventing altering clan tag colors (used to appear as friendly instead of an enemy).

Patch 1.2 will not address every problem in the game. Patch 1.3 will encompass many more of the outstanding issues, and will start at Phase 2 again once patch 1.2 passes through Phase 5.

Additional support for the game will be available by way of patches as necessary in the future. And before you ask, one of the items still on our list is /record (this is unfortunately a bigger task which cannot be completed in time for 1.2). More info regarding future patches will be made available after Patch 1.2 is released.

Hope that clears up some of the questions. In the meantime, enjoy double-XP this weekend!

Regards,
-JD

Grand Theft Auto:4 Xbox 360 review

Niko Belic, and Patrick Mcreary fighting off a gang.

Niko Belic, and Patrick Mcreary fighting off a gang.

The GTA series has always had a place in my heart, I had GTA3 on the Xbox, loved it, I had so much fun getting into a car, mowing down pedestrians, then out running the feds, then in Vice City, running around as Tommy Verceti in a place that looked like Miami. Then in 2004, San Andreas was released, when I heard a new GTA game was going to be released I was so excited, I started playing GTA3 and Vice City again. Once I got the game I played it for hours, stayed up until 3am finishing missions, it was like, the perfect game, awesome graphics (Back then it was :P ), great story, and the sandbox feel, that is GTA. I played San Andreas up until about last month, just before I got my 360, I finished the game 3 times, and have spent at least 600 hours driving around killing everyone in sight, infact I love the GTA series so much, that when I got my 360, the first game I got was GTA4, I had Kung Fu Panda, and Lego Indy, but for at least 3 weeks I didn’t even acknowlede their existence. It was like the perfect game!, all over again. The graphics look amazing on my LG HD 42′ LCD display. First thing I did was the missions, the story line in this game is the best in the series, period. I feel so immersed while playing it that if someone next door was screaming for help, I probably wouldn’t here them (That’s why I have to take breaks, to check for screaming). In the mission where *SPOILER*Roman gets taken, and you have to rescue him, I felt angry at the people who took him, I felt joy in killing every last one of them, call me insane, but it was an incredible experience, the mission where you rob the bank was incredible, I had to repeat it a few times but I got it in the end :P . I can’t find anything negative to say about this game, the only thing that (I’m glad) wasn’t included, was the “feature” to get haircuts and tattoes, I admit the clothes range isnt as wide as it was in San Andreas, but with the story as good as it is, and the graphics as good as they are, who the hell needs clothes?, I mean seriosuly, I play the game naked sometimes.

Rocket launchers in GTA4 are awesome!.

WERE BACK!.

However, not in black. The blog is finally back up, hosted with Bluehost on my friend eXsolved’s new site, CoDCreators.com. My Godaddy account expired before I could recover the latest backup, so I had to revert to this one from the 29/11, that kinda sucks but oh well, I’m happy to be back on the interwebs. Some more bad news, I lost my “Doggs” theme that eXsolved made, I hope he can find it soon because this theme sucks :P , anyways, the blog should be up and running as normal in a few days!.
