Gtactix

Thanks to Jock Yitch for pointing this out to me. Gtactix is a tool that can be used to visualise game strats, at least that’s what I think of it as.

Here is the Info page from the Gtactix site

Simple drawing tools like pen, line, circle, arc & icon make creating strats a breeze.

Work offline: Create your strategies and tactics and share them with your friends as either a picture, or a .strat file which your friends can open and view, edit or even play back like a movie.

Work online: Connect to your friends online and work on a shared drawing surface to create your strategies together in real-time.

GTactix is compatible with any game, and available map packs can be easily downloaded and installed right from within the program with a few simple clicks. Load any of your own screenshots or pics and use them to make your own custom strat. You can even compile your own map pack and submit it for addition to the vault where everyone can download it.

GTactix currently has map packs available for Battlefield 2142, Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes & COH: Opposing Fronts, Counter-Strike: Source, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Red Orchestra, World in Conflict, and more!

I haven’t had the chance to use the tool much, but at first glance it looks a little complicated, but once you get over that, and learn your way around the UI, it becomes pretty fun. The online feature is very well done, I can make a server, and all my clan buddies can join me and we can strat together. It’s the perfect tool for competitive players.

Broken HTTP redirect in CoD:WW

Today, RGN and FPSAdmin are making a stand against the broken HTTP Redirect:

Call of Duty:World at War

Request to Custom content creators and server admins!

Since the http redirect is broken and the fs_ game path is still very obscure to all, FPSadmin and RGN are recommending that you do not publish or host custom maps and or mods until Treyarch releases detailed information on the correct methods of implementation ofr use of maps and mods.

Or, until we have a handle on the ramifications (including any Punkbuster issues) that might arise from improperly distributing maps and mods through the game using the fs_LocalAppData dvar (which, Treyarch officially advises against).

Currently we are unable to correctly implement the fs_game path to ensure we do not corrupt the end users (clients) MultiPlayer experience. Please note: the fs_game path was correctly implemented in Call of Duty 4 so you would not have a client with custom attributes from one mod affecting another and vice versa.

We urge all mappers and modders to hold off releasing your work. We are not saying “Stop” your project, just hold off releasing them until we get a handle on how this will effect the client side of the game.

We’re also urging all server admins not to host any type of custom maps or mods until Treyarch fixes this mistake or we find a suitable means to offer the correct way to implement these types of things.

Please, we (the community) need your help in this matter. If you start rolling out custom content under the currently broken system the chaotic end result could be particularly crippling for the end user.

We can also expect support nightmares for the content creators themselves which wastes their valuable modding and mapping time. There are too many unknowns at this time to take a chance.

Stay strong and get your mods and maps polished to perfection. When Treyarch finally comes to us with a cure (hopefully soon) perhaps then we will all be able to enjoy this excellent game to its fullest potential.

Update
The following mod teams have all agreed to this:

* AWE5 Dev team
* eXtreme+ X5 Dev team
* ACE Dev team

From http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16316

As Mike said in his post, waiting for a fix will give everyone time to polish our maps to perfection, please read this and think twice before releasing.

Mod tools released, Cartman pwns CoD:World at War.

Treyarch mod
First off, here are the mod tools, I know this isn’t exactly breaking news, but better late than never right?. The Treyarch modding/mapping wiki is great, loads of information, and the fact that the tools were released in record timing makes me feel a little resentful for slamming the game so much, the only thing left to do now (well not the ONLY thing, but one main thing.) is to support the comp. guys, they have shown that they fully support the modding guys, so why not the competitive crew?, this aside, Treyarch seem to be really supporting the community, or at least trying to. Links, and the Southpark story after the jump.

Call of Duty competitive community to move to CoD2? + CoDWW mod tools released tommorow

Thanks for the scoop Jock!.
Apparently the CoD competitive community wants to ditch CoDWW and move to CoD2, it’s still too early to predict what will happen, but I think Promod is CoDWW’s last hope for the competitive community. According to the esteemed Jock Yitch

“I talked to nabore about this last week. he’s percolated it…and he agrees with me. he’s getting huge reaction from the competitive guyz. we’ll compete with CS head to head with call of duty ’s low end entry level product”

And like I told him, I love CoD2 because not only is the gameplay great and a lot more tactical than 4 and WW, it will also run nicely on a low-mid end pc. I can easily get a 125 constant fps with my 8400 GS, a very low end card. Personally I think the idea is great, I support the community, and will follow them to wherever they want to play.

Oh and also, the CoDWW mod tools will be released tomorrow, well, today here, or something I’m a little confused… But anyway, they will be released soon!.

Model_Changer 2.0 UPDATE

Here’s an update to “Fun Little Mod I Made”, I’ve updated the code to make it more efficient and easier to edit. I’ve used arrays instead of typing out the xmodel’s which is a much better method.
Instead of editing the character file, which is also a bad method because the edits will only affect that particular team/class combination. My new method is to just have a separate gsc with all the script except the precaching, which is done in the main() function of dm.gsc, the modelchanger.gsc is threaded from the onSpawnPlayer() function of dm.gsc, so really the only files needed in this mod are:dm.gsc-modelchanger.gsc-xmodel’s.
Code and download after the jump :) .

Fun Little Mod I Made

Here’s a little something I just made, and thought I’d share with everyone. Basically it’s a script that changes the players model every 10 seconds, displaying a message that says what you were changed to. This process loops over and over :) .
Code, video and download after the jump.

CoD:WaW Thoughts

As most of you know, I got the game before it was released. I played some of the SP, and by some I mean 2 days straight. I was pretty impressed, even the loading screens were great. The game really shows how crazy those Japanese were, loads of ambushes, and those damn banzai!, I can honestly say my heart was beating faster than usual when those crazy bastards ran at me, I knew I had to stab him quick, or he’d have me. I didn’t get far in the campaign, I was playing on the hardest setting, something I’ve never done before, but it is paying off, It’s making me play better, more tactical. I think It’s still very to review the game, so I’ll just posts my thoughts on what I’ve played of it, which isn’t all that much only 3 levels of SP, and a little bit of jumping on some of the maps, or a little FFA with my brother. The game doe’s look better, but that’s only because these settings are forced upon us, we can’t disable blur or things like that, which would help our fps alot. If Treyarch didn’t lock out cg_drawfps the demo command and shader 2.0 (and alot of other things) I would have no trouble saying this game was a success, but unfortunately this is not the case. Treyarch is trying to make a console game for the pc, I don’t like that, and I fear that soon enough, the entire console will be removed, and we will be playing with all those console guys, now that sounds fun, but the console, and binds, and commands, are what make pc gaming special, and as soon as Treyarch tries to change the way things should be, that’s when the game will go to shit.

By the way:New domain will be ordered soon, and I’m working on the design, trying to make it sexier if that’s possible :P .

CoD:WaW Co-op Zombies.

I finally convinced my awesome brother Crasher(xfire:crasher806) to play Zombies with me, it was incredibly fun, but at the same time kinda intense, it also required a lot of communication and strategic moves, and we didn’t do either :P , but it was fun nonetheless. We weren’t very good at it, we got to level 5, but it was great fun. I’d like to share my experience with you all :D . CoD:WaW will be released in the US in a few hours, but us Aussie’s have to wait till the 12th.
